The 10th grade will participate in their annual Washington DC trip on May 16th through 18th. This is a great opportunity to see how policy is created around issues your children are passionate about.  The DC trip is directly tied to students Cycle 4 Humanities project, so your child’s attendance is mandatory.  Students will meet with members of Congress and nonprofit organizations to deeper understand their cycle four topics and gain knowledge of how to create their own nonprofit organization and how to  affect policy change.  Students will also visit the museums on the mall, attend a guided night tour of the monuments, tour The Capitol, and go to the Pentagon City Mall.  This is a great 10th grade tradition.

We will depart from ICE at 7:30 am on Wednesday, May 16th.  The busses need to beat traffic, so it is vital your child arrive to ICE no later than 7:15 am.  Busses will drop us off at Homewood Suites 1900 N Quinn St, Arlington, VA 22209.  We will travel to and from the hotel on the DC Metro (the price of their DC metro card is included in the cost of the trip).  We will leave DC on Friday  afternoon around 3pm, and return to ICE Friday evening around 8pm.  The arrival time is contingent upon traffic, so I ask that you communicate with your child as to our progress on the road.

Each student is asked to pay $375.00 to cover the cost of hotel and transportation; however, there are families who will need assistance paying for this trip, so we would appreciate any extra funds you can contribute.  Please pay in full OR begin installments by March 23rd.  The trip needs to be paid in full by May 2nd.  You are also welcome to pay the entire amount as soon as you can.  If these payments do not work for your family, or if you need financial assistance, please email Pete (pkarpice@gmail.com) and Mark (mdmazzone@gmail.com).

You can pay by check made out to I.C.E. Foundation (ensure you write “DC Trip” and your child’s name in the memo) and bringing the check(s) to the main office.  Or you can pay online on the ICE website in the “Trips” tab.  On the site there are payment options which include contributing more than the $375, sponsoring another student, and paying in installments.  Again, please begin payment by March 23rd.

While in DC, your child will need money for three lunches, three dinners,  and any souvenirs they would like to purchase. Breakfast is provided on Thursday and Friday mornings.   Please list any food allergies below.

Students are to behave according to all DOE policies and represent the Institute for Collaborative Education at all times.

This is such a wonderful opportunity for ICE students, please let me know if I can answer any questions or be of any support.
