11th Grade Trip to Georgia & Alabama 2019
The 11th grade will participate in a trip to Georgia and Alabama to study the Civil Rights Movement January 20, 2019 - January 26, 2019.
The trip is an academic enrichment opportunity and is designed for students to deepen their understanding of the Jim Crow Era and Civil Rights Movement in the South. The Civil War and its aftermath are at the heart of the 11th grade history curriculum and it is truly an amazing opportunity for students to study historical landmarks related to that time period in person. It is also especially recommended for students studying these themes for their historical research projects, as going on the trip will help them with their research.
The total cost of the trip is $1,200. Each student is asked to pay $1,050 to cover the cost of hotel (shared rooms), transportation, tours, and other activities. Students will need to bring an additional $150 with them to Atlanta for the cost of food and snacks for the duration of the trip.
You may pay by check(s) made payable to ICE Foundation or through PayPal. If you prefer, instead of giving your child the cash, include the $150 payment to the ICE Foundation (total of $1,200) and Jehan will will carry the funds for your child’s meals and snacks.
To claim your child’s spot for the trip, submit a deposit of $100 by Friday, November 16th. The remainder will be due December 14th. You are also welcome to pay the entire amount as soon as you can. Please see below for a payment schedule. If for whatever reason your child cannot attend the trip, you may request a refund until December 14th. After December 14th, no refunds will be issued. There are families who will need assistance paying for this trip, so we would appreciate any extra funds you can contribute. If you are in need of financial assistance, please let me know. A tentative itinerary is attached; the definitive itinerary will be available closer to the trip.
This is an incredible opportunity as students will be able to experience Georgia, Alabama, and their historical landmarks up-close and in depth. We expect all students to behave according to all DOE policies and represent the Institute for Collaborative Education at all times. The trip is optional and the first 34 students to submit the 2019 Georgia Alabama Permission Slip and their deposit will be accepted to participate.
This is such a wonderful opportunity for ICE students, please let me know if I can answer any questions or be of any support.
All the Best,
Jehan Senai Worthy
