At the Institute for Collaborative Education, we recognize the unique needs of our students who learn differently. As such we work collaboratively with families, content teachers, and the students themselves in order to ensure that lessons and materials are being adjusted to meet the student’s needs. The Special Education/Inclusion (SEI) Department at ICE primarily follows an ICT (co-teaching) model within students’ ELA and math classes, in which special educators work closely with content teachers to create and facilitate lessons within an inclusion setting. Related services (counseling, speech and language, and occupational therapy) are also provided according to students' needs as laid out in their IEPs. Ultimately, special education services, like all other facets of our academic program at ICE, are very individualized.
